Hi Lola.
Just made you an administrator, like it or not! Check out whatever you can for ideas. When you've gotten a chance to do that, let me know what ideas, info, etc you think would be helpful to pass on to other schools or organizations for making use of this network to achieve benefits for them as businesses/orgs. If you think it makes best sense for me to make more people admins, I can do that, too. And I just noticed Ceci invited someone she new from Portland to join. What a coincidence, she's a NWSAM grad, Shawn Kay! Now one of the most recent new members.

Wow, what a beautiful page! And so great that you've started a NWSAM group! I notice the description ends mid-sentence though, without being able to "read more."

Thank you Lola. It's so great to be in touch with you again and have this resource. I'm loving doing massage in Portland and have some great clients. Thanks so much for all you've taught us.
Namaste
Shawn

About Me
My first dog was born just 15 minutes before me, and there have been animals in my life ever since. It seems fitting that I would be drawn to dedicate my life to working with them. After working as a vet tech and studying animal science at Michigan State University, I went to work at the Busch Gardens zoo in Tampa. I started massaging horses in the late 1980's and since, have worked with horses, dogs, wildlife and zoo animals. I added people to my massage practice in 1994 and studied Thai Massage in Hawaii. In 2001, I opened the Northwest School of Animal Massage. Today when I am not teaching or riding my horse "Osso", I am either playing with my two JRT's "Gorilla" and "Shanny" or my miniature donkey "Seth" or hanging with my partner David in and around Seattle. Life is brilliant!

HOW CAN LEARNING ANIMAL MASSAGE CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

I have had the great fortune time and time again of hearing students talk about how learning animal therapies has changed their life. Whether they came to class to learn ways to better care for their own animals or to change careers in order to find more fulfilling work, the time they spend with the horses, dogs and cats in class can be truly trasnformational. At no time is this more evident than when we partner with humane societies and shelters around the country to offer classes. While massaging the dogs and cats (and sometimes rabbits or other orphaned critters), bonds are formed that serve to motivate those students for years afterward. But this is probably something you are familiar with if you are a practicing professional in the animal wellness field. The reward is great, as is the responsibility.

You Can Read It In the Sunday Paper!

Check out this story from this Sunday's New York Times. Pet Massage is certainly getting its fair share of recognition as of late. Not exactly a glowing review, but there is no such thing as bad press!http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/07/fashion/07planb.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper">7planb.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaperSee More

NWSAM in the News

If any of you are sitting around the television Friday evening around 7PM, check out Seattle's Evening Magazine on King 5 to see a segment on NWSAM. They came to one of our canine massage classes to film students and grads in action. If you can't catch it, we will try to post a link to a copy once we receive it from the studio. Thanks again to all the students, grads, instructors and animals who participated.
